I am a Christian, a wife to a big-hearted sports fanatic of a husband, mom to a deep thinking and creative daughter, a joyful and energetic son, and an emotionally needy and precious English Bulldog. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Consultant (CEDS-C). I have spent the last 10+ years working at all levels of care (Inpatient, Residential, Partial Hospitalization & Intensive Outpatient Programs) treating adults and adolescents struggling with eating disorders and co-morbid diagnoses. Recently, I felt God calling me to open a private practice to provide Christian Therapy to help women who are struggling with body image, anxiety, depression and/or eating disorders.
Christian Therapy
Here is where I will shoot it straight… I never wanted to be a Christian Therapist. I was content being a Christian who was a therapist but not a “Christian Therapist.” Here is some free advice…”never say never.” God softened my heart and helped me see my own biases around this. The fact is, many of us have been hurt by the church, hurt by Christians or have seen and heard Christians use the Bible in hurtful ways. I believe those experiences help keep those who are hurting at a distance from Christians and Christian Therapist. I also believe that we have an enemy who is working hard to keep it that way. And yet, when I think about truly helping people find healing, I have to talk about Jesus. I believe that God is calling me to take my experience and training (I primarily use ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and His Word to help women learn to truly LIVE life without the dark cloud of these struggles.
I am a Christian but I do not claim to be perfect or have all of the answers… I’m pretty far from both, to be honest. But the God I serve is perfect and He does have all of the answers. I welcome the opportunity to join you and Him on your journey to healing.
